In Memory of Janet M. GoodeNovember 9, 1935 - October 3, 2016
Janet Marion Goode, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in San Diego on October 3, 2016.
She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on November 9, 1935 to Llewellyn and Hazel Carter. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. She lived in several places before her move to San Diego in 1966. During her long time in San Diego County, she resided in Chula Vista, Potrero and San Diego.
Janet was a long-time employee at Safeway/Vons Stores as a clerk and receiver. She then trained as a tax preparer for H. and R. Block. Finally, she started her own tax preparation business, American Tax Service, in Chula Vista, which she ran for 21 years.
Janet was an avid bicyclist for many years. She biked with groups and on her own. She relished long-distance rides and found them exhilarating.
Janet was a voracious reader who enjoyed a wide variety of books, but she had a special affection for the work of Jane Austen and considered herself a "Janeite". She loved travel. She had many adventures driving to Canada, and throughout the western states. She also enjoyed traveling through the British Isles and Ireland, by train, bus and car. Of course those travels included Bath, Winchester and Chawton - sites important in Jane Austen's life. She enjoyed cruising and had visited Mexico, Alaska, Canada, the British Isles and the Mediterranean.
Janet will be remembered for her love of animals, especially dogs, and for he generous nature. Many lucky animals found a safe haven and a loving home with Janet. Friends, acquaintances and strangers received help from Janet - her time, her skill, her finances. She was always willing to reach out directly and be of service. That is her legacy.
